Proprietary technologies that generate innovation

Proprietary technologies are at the origin of the new products that Ethypharm develops for all of its customers.  These technologies are among the most robust on the market.

Modified release technologies for oral administration

MULTICAPS®, protected by 22 patent families

This technology is used for drugs in capsule or tablet form. It helps optimise the efficacy and safety as well as patient compliance.

Its formulations of this technology provide controlled, delayed or targeted release.

LOCKTAB®, protected by three patent families

Locktab® tablets were designed to help prevent incorrect use by patients who could accidentally chew or crush controlled release tablets. They also help deter abuse by individuals who would intentionally chew or crush tablets for the purposes of obtaining a quick and massive effect through the oral, nasal or injectable route. Their high resistance makes them very difficult to chew and crush. These properties limit the possibility for quick extraction of the active ingredient. Furthermore, Locktab® tablets do not make the active ingredient more available quickly in the presence of alcohol, which helps prevent possible uncontrolled release of the active ingredient when the product is taken with alcoholic beverages.

This technology is well suited to products that are likely to be abused:  opiates, narcotics, stimulants, sedatives and antidepressants.

Technologies for orodispersible tablets

FLASHTAB®, includes 22 patent families

These new generation tablets dissolve very quickly in the mouth and can be administered with or without water. The technologies employed to mask the taste of the active ingredients that they contain are particularly effective. Aromatisation is used to give them a pleasant taste.

The development of bilayer Flashtab® tablets could be used for combinations of multiple active ingredients. Finally, the development of modified release FLASHTAB® tablets represents a very interesting opportunity.

These practical formulations aim to improve patient compliance and comfort. They are developed for prescription products (Rx) or over the counter products (OTC).

DRUGSOL® Technologies for increasing bioavailability

Three patent families protect the sublingual and transmucosal technologies.

The medications penetrate the oral mucosa to directly enter the systemic circulation, thereby avoiding the first pass hepatic metabolism. For certain molecules, this helps increase bioavailability and speed up onset of action in comparison to the traditional oral route.

DRUGSOL® represents 21 patent families

This technology combines several approaches to increase the bioavailability of low solubility medications that correspond to Class II of the biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) for predicting intestinal drug absorption. It integrates processes for reducing the size of particles to nanometric dimensions (nanonisation) as well as processes for solid solutions.

These technologies can, for example, spectacularly improve the solubility of new chemical entities, which often have extremely low solubility, in order to help them reach the human clinical development level more quickly.
